I love to learn new things, and once I learn, I want to share! Over the course of 35 years, I’ve received a Bachelor’s degree in Library Science and a Master of Arts, focusing on Literature for Children and Young Adults. I’ve presented at workshops, professional development seminars, and conferences. This has occurred in many places — local, state, national and international conferences, and on a variety of topics.
Here are some topics I love to “share” with others. I’d love the opportunity to share with your group or organization:
The power of collaboration, and how to get started
Using the AASL Standards as the foundation for planning, we will talk through building a collaborative environment and how to plan an effective lesson or unit.
LGBTQA+ literature and the importance of having these books available to share
Your school community has diverse students and affiliations. LGBTQ students are often “hiding in plain sight” and need the support of the school library both as a safe space and a place to find books that affirm their self-worth.
Using Trauma-Informed practices.
With challenging events over the last few years, your students and faculty are traumatized. Learn of ways to design your school and library methods and design to improve the atmosphere.
Using national standards (AASL Standards) to lead from the library.
Our National AASL Standards offer support as you lead from the library. Learn about scaffolding your teaching and learning to show your leadership skills.
Using picture books to introduce Secondary Content.
We do love picture books! There are many that would give an entry point for teaching a new topic or introducing a different point of view. Sometimes there is not time to read a novel, but we can share a picture book in one class period. They can spark questions, as an introduction to an inquiry project, and picture book biographies can help describe a time period or famous figure.
Please contact me to talk about a presentation you would like to have at your next event, virtual or in person.
